The following video is funny for those of us who have experienced public speaking anxiety. But if you want some serious advice that will actually make a big difference, read the text below the video.

Fight back against the Fear of Public Speaking!!!

Fear of Public Speaking

I won’t bore you with statistics about how many people suffer from the fear of public speaking or performance anxiety. You probably already know that it outranks the fear of death in most survey-type research polls. But in getting straight to the point of helping you diminish your fear, allow me to make a point related to this. If many people have a fear of public speaking, why do you feel as though no one understands the intensity of your anxiety leading up to these events? The answer is that they don’t understand, because they don’t have the same level of anxiety as you do. Their bodies don’t react with as much powerful adrenalin as yours does. They don’t have social anxiety to the extent you do; they just have a fear of looking dumb in front of the group they are speaking to. The following information is for people who have a severe level of fear in reaction to situations in which they must speak in front of a group. It is not another rehashing of the tired concepts that you have run into before regarding the fear of public speaking, geared toward the average Joe who gets the jitters.

What doesn’t work:

• Refusing to speak in public (it’s bound to catch you eventually, and it will be worse when it does)

• Relaxation training (it is not possible to apply your skill under conditions of intense fear)

• Picturing them in their underwear (You are so self-focused at that moment that you could care less if they were naked. It’s like telling someone to picture some hungry lions wearing party hats as they circle you.)

• All the other silly methods proposed by people who have never felt their mind and body freeze and convulse at the same time. (They mean well, but they just don’t understand how crippling this fear can be).

So…What’s the solution? There are solutions, but the solution is not exactly the same for everyone, so be patient with me as I go through the core issues that lead to success. I am going to break down the solutions into several different categories, depending on what kind of fear of public speaking you feel. Click on the link that is the closest to your self-diagnosed issue. If you feel all of them apply, you may need to go through them one at a time (and you will likely need to be more patient with yourself in beating the anxiety if you have all of these fears to a powerful degree).
